Robert Malara began his career in 1969 upon graduating from Riverside School of Aeronautics – the school his father founded. He spent his career working in upstate New York. His father was also an FAA-certified mechanic and received the Charles Taylor Master Mechanic Award in 1994. Robert was awarded the Charles Taylor Master Mechanic Award by the FAA in 2019. The Charles Taylor Master Mechanic Award is named in honor of Mr. Charles Taylor, the first aviation mechanic in powered flight. The Charles Taylor "Master Mechanic" Award recognizes the lifetime accomplishments of senior mechanics. Mr. Taylor served as the Wright brothers' mechanic and is credited with designing and building the engine for their first successful aircraft.
